Cushing's syndrome in dogs: new treatment, improved compliance
Our endocrinology offering expands with a unique solution for treating Cushing's syndrome in dogs. Available for several months in Europe, it simplifies the daily management of this hormonal disease and improves the animal's well-being.
Hormonal balance is essential to the health and well-being of animals. However, with the increase in life expectancy of pets, endocrine pathologies (which particularly affect older animals) are observed more and more frequently. With our first treatment for Cushing's syndrome in dogs, we provide veterinarians with a novel solution that facilitates compliance, essential to ensure treatment efficacy.
Cushing's syndrome: a complex and common hormonal condition in dogs
Cushing's syndrome, also called hyperadrenocorticism, is a complex hormonal disorder that affects approximately 1 to 2 dogs per 1,000. Certain breeds are particularly predisposed, such as the Poodle, Dachshund, or Beagle. The disease leads to excessive cortisol production, which can damage the animal's organs, muscles, and overall health. The clinical signs of a dog with Cushing's syndrome are numerous: alopecia, distended abdomen, excessive thirst and urination, increased appetite, skin fragility, and susceptibility to skin and urinary infections. Treatment is essential to control the disease and improve the dog's quality of life.
Proper dosing and compliance: keys to treatment success
The management of Cushing's syndrome is based on two main approaches. Surgery (removal of the pituitary or adrenal tumor) can sometimes be considered, but it is not always possible and carries risks. Drug treatment is therefore the most frequent approach: it aims to reduce cortisol production and control the symptoms of the disease. Administered daily, this treatment can significantly improve the animal's quality of life and prolong its life expectancy.
However, dose control is crucial as it is specific to each individual. Thanks to a novel formulation, our new solution, available for several months throughout Europe, facilitates dosing, administration, and treatment compliance. For comprehensive disease management, our drug treatment can be combined with our shampoos and our Veterinary HPM D1 diet to better manage the dermatological disorders associated with Cushing's syndrome.
Our new solution for the treatment of Cushing's syndrome in dogs complements our existing endocrinology range: treatment of equine Cushing's syndrome and canine hypothyroidism. Our teams are working tirelessly to continue to provide veterinarians and owners with new solutions for better management of hormonal disorders in animals.
